KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The couple in their 80s woke up to the sound of breaking glass in the middle of the night. Both the 84-year-old man and his 83-year-old wife sustained serious head injuries.

The break in happened around 2:30 a.m. and Sheriff's officials say the suspect broke in through a back or side door. They are not sure if anything was stolen.

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth says the break in is unusual for the area.

The 84-year-old man drove himself to Kenosha Fire Station 6 which is a little distance away from the house. He knocked on the fire station door and the firefighters called for help.

The man was taken by ambulance to St. Catherine's hospital and then flown to Froedtert. The 83-year-old woman was taken by Flight For Life from the scene. Both are expected to survive their injuries.

The suspect is still on the run and is only identified as a dark skinned adult man.
