One fatally drowns in Hartford mill pond

HARTFORD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 28-year-old man fatally drowned in the Hartford mill pond near downtown Saturday, Aug. 15.

Hartford police officers were called to the mill pond for a report of a man in the pond in distress around 4:45 p.m. Officers responded and witnessed the victim go below the water's surface and did not see him resurface.

A Hartford officer attempted to rescue the victim, but was unable to immediately locate the victim underwater.

Hartford Fire and EMS were dispatched along with Washington County Dive Team to assist with the recovery effort.

At 5:41 p.m. the man was pulled from the water.

Witnesses say the victim entered the water in an attempt to recover a remote control boat that was sinking.
