Old Spice Deodorant Being Sued for Allegedly Causing Rashes and Burns

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A multi-million dollar class-action lawsuit alleges Procter & Gamble’s Old Spice deodorant has caused severe skin rashes and burns on “hundreds if not thousands of consumers.”

Thirteen products are named in the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in Columbus, including Old Spice Lionpride and Arctic Force High Endurance deodorants.

The lawsuit seeks more than $5 million in damages

There are videos on YouTube showing men with armpit irritation and burns. The lawsuit claims “the problem is rampant.”

In a statement, Proctor and Gamble spokesperson Damon Jones said Old Spice products are safe to use, according to USA Today. Jones says some consumers are experiencing skin reactions, not chemical burns.

“A small number of men may experience irritation due to alcohol sensitivity, a common ingredient across virtually all deodorant products. For men who have experienced a reaction to a deodorant, an antiperspirant may be a better option because they have a different formulation.”

Jones said the safety of men who use Old Spice “is the foundation of everything we do.”
