Officials: Milwaukee mother charged after 1-year-old son drowns in bathtub

Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 28-year-old Milwaukee woman is facing charges after authorities say her 1-year-old child drowned in a bathtub while in her care.

According to a criminal complaint, on May 15, Selena Doxzon was caring for her two sons, ages 3 and 13-months-old, at her residence near 53rd and Custer.

Doxzon told investigators -- according to the complaint -- she put both her sons in the bath together while she went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast and wash dishes. Doxzon stated she was in the kitchen for approximately four minutes when her 3-year-old son walked into the kitchen "soaking wet."

Doxzon, according to the complaint, returned to the bathroom and found her younger son floating in the water face up and unresponsive. Doxzon started screaming for help.

The criminal complaint says, Doxzon told investigators she'd usually bath her children separately and it was just recently -- based on her younger son's size -- she started putting him in the bathtub instead of a sink.

The criminal complaint says the bathtub water appeared to be approximately 3.5-4 inches in depth and reached her 3-year-old son's belly.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office determined the child's cause of death to be asphyxiation as a result of drowning.

Doxzon has been charged with one count of neglecting a child, causing death.

In court on Tuesday, May 20, a judge set Doxzon's bond at $10,000. She's due back in court for a preliminary hearing May 30.
