Officials: Milwaukee man accused of calling in bomb threat because he didn't want to go to work

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man is accused of calling in a bomb threat at the Milwaukee Athletic Club because he didn't want to go to work.

The incident happened Thursday, March 2. Investigators say Aveon James called in a threat to the Milwaukee Athletic Club, near Broadway and Wisconsin in downtown Milwaukee.

According to a criminal complaint, James called by phone and said, "I have a bomb in the building. You have one hour to evacuate, or I will detonate."

Police were called and the 13-story building was evacuated. Approximately 100 people were impacted.

The complaint says officers determined the phone number that called in belonged to James, an employee who worked in the building and had not shown up for work.

James, according to the complaint, was apprehended and apologized for calling in the threat.

Officials say in an interview, James admitted to making the call and admitted that there never was a bomb; he just made the threat so that he would not have to go to work that day.
