Officials assist with beached boat in Racine County

A 70-year-old boat operator and his passengers found themselves in a scary situation, while traveling from Vernon Hills, Illinois to Racine.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol was contacted Saturday when a caller said he was heading to shore because his boat was filling with water.

After the boat was towed and inspected it was determined an upper support bracket to the swim platform broke, causing the weight of the swim platform to push the lower swim platform bracket through the hull, allowing water to enter the boat.

The operator and his passengers were unharmed.
