MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee officials are investigating after a 73-year-old woman was found dead in her unheated home near 91st and Wilbur on Friday, Feb. 14.
According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, the woman's core body temperature was less than 40 degrees.
The ME's Office says the electricity was working, but the heat was turned off and or malfunctioning in the home.
Neighbors say the mailman alerted police earlier Friday, and it is both terrifying and devastating that she could have frozen to death.
They say the woman didn't talk much, but she was always kind.
"I think that's scary to know that that happened, and you know, not knowing and not being able to do anything about it, and it makes me wish that I could have checked in," said neighbor Kelli Johnson.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, Feb. 17.
