OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On August 12, 1939 The Wizard of Oz had its world premiere in Oconomowoc.
Now, 80 years later, Oconomowoc is celebrating the anniversary by creating a special place dedicated to the beloved fantasy tale.
"Our city council has agreed to turn the plaza that we're standing in right here, City Hall Plaza, into our Wizard of Oz Plaza, so we'll have an area in which the termination of the Yellow Brick Road will happen as well as in this plaza, we'll have four of the primary characters of The Wizard of Oz," said Bob Duffy, Oconomowoc Tourism Director.
A special showing of the film is scheduled for August 15 in Oconomowoc.
