Oconomowoc Girl Scout wins $10K Gold Award scholarship
OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Girl Scout from Oconomowoc, Kathleen Krautheim, has been distinguished as one of 110 nationwide recipients of the $10K Gold Award Girl Scout Scholarship.
The announcement was made in a Thursday, July 27 press release.
Krautheim was awarded for her health education project titled "Living Healthy Through Lax," which she instituted at a youth sporting club in Oconomowoc. The project targeted children's physical and mental health challenges.
The "Little Scoopers" program she developed for first and second graders promoted healthy habits through sport, including 42 participants in its inaugural year. Krautheim said in the press release that the award marks the culmination of her Girl Scout journey which began in kindergarten.
"Receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship...completes my Girl Scout journey full circle." She added, "I have been a part of Girl Scouts since kindergarten and receiving this award proves to my younger self that I can do incredible things."
The accomplishment is part of a broader effort by the 2023 Gold Award Girl Scout class. This year, these Girl Scouts invested over 300,000 hours and raised $2.5 million in funds to address critical societal issues such as environmental sustainability, racial justice and gender inequality in STEM.
