Surveillance: Oak Creek family searching for answers after 3 people break into their home
OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An Oak Creek family is searching for answers after their home was broken into Saturday night.
Joseph Duke says his 11 and 12-year kids were at home Saturday night when the break-in occurred. Duke says no one was harmed, but he and his family say they feel they’ve lost all sense of security in their own home.
“We left the kids here, they wanted to play their video games,” said Duke. “My daughter calls my wife and says I think someone’s in the house. So I proceeded to look in the camera and sure thing, three masked subjects were kicking in my back door.”
Oak Creek police say it happened shortly before 10 p.m. near S. 27th street and Rawson Avenue.
Duke says while he called 911, his kids hid in one of the closets inside the home and after a short while, ran outside. Duke says Oak Creek police arrived within minutes.
Upon arrival officers say they created a plan to secure the scene and were able to safely get the children out of the home. The kids were unharmed and were reunited with their parents. Officers cleared the residence and made sure nobody else was inside.
“They’re a little traumatized. They don’t understand what happened,” said Duke. “A little violated.”
Duke says while no one was injured, he’s concerned about his family’s safety and hopes they get answers soon.
"Definitely updating our security and everything else that comes with that. Just letting the community know that we kinda gotta stick together and watch out for each other,” said Duke.
Oak Creek police have not yet made any arrests and say the investigation is ongoing.
Duke says there is a $3,000 cash reward for anyone with information about the break in.
