No Snow? Ski slopes make their own despite warm Wisconsin winter

NOW: No Snow? Ski slopes make their own despite warm Wisconsin winter

SLINGER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- There may be no snow in your backyard, but that doesn't mean you can't hit the slopes. Little Switzerland Ski Resort says business is still sliding in.

Snow in Wisconsin is normally a shoo-in, but this isn't your typical winter.

“It’s a little strange I would say," said skier Brian Fisher.

The only snow you'll see in the state is the snow on the Little Swiss hills.

“We’re lucky to be open and, we’re happy to be open," said Brandon Wagner, the marketing manager at Little Swiss.

For Little Swiss, there's a few months out of the year that's crucial for business. Wagner says there's a couple hundred skiers on the slopes. Around Christmas week, there's usually thousands.

“We’re hoping the demand shows up in January and February once we get those cold temperatures," said Wagner.

Wagner says when the temperature drops at night, Little Swiss uses their own snow machine to make snow for the slopes.

“As long as we get a few windows of snowmaking, we’re not concerned," said Wagner.

A warm winter can mean a slower day on the slopes, but fewer lines.

“It’s nice because you can get up and down the run a lot faster which is great," said Fisher.

For a classic Wisconsinite, this weather may be out of the ordinary, some out of towners are thankful.

“I’m in the army, I’m stationed in Hawaii right now, so getting to see some snow and do some snowboarding is awesome," said skier Carch Swaylick.

Wagner says while the sunshine is appreciated, he's hoping there's some snowfall, soon.
