Nine Hour Standoff Occurs on Manitowoc Communications Tower

(WFRV) It took nine hours, but Manitowoc police were finally able to get a man off a communications tower.

It all started around 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after a man climbed the tower near the dispatch center in downtown Manitowoc.

The 40 year old man climbed the tower and made threats to jump. He also was drinking and threw cans to the ground.

Negotiators and a rescue team attempted to get him to come down, but he claimed he had a weapon - so the rescue team could not get to him.

At around 2 a.m. Thursday morning, negotiators finally convinced him to come down, where he was taken into custody and taken to the hospital and treated for prolonged exposure to the cold weather
