Nicolet Union High School rolls out the red carpet for the 1st day of school
GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's the first day of school for many districts across southeast Wisconsin. By the time the class bell rang Tuesday, Sept. 5, most kids were back in class for the 2023-24 school year.
Nicolet High School in Glendale is helping some students shake off the end-of-summer-break blues. Teachers and staff rolled out the red carpet to greet kids as they headed into their first class.
"I’m kind of nervous, kind of excited," said one parent.
It was mixed emotions for both parents and students.
"It’s a little nerve wracking for the first day, but it makes you feel special," said sophomore Kennedy Pfeifer.
Nicolet has been rolling out the red carpet to welcome kids back for 15 years now. It's a tradition that students now look forward to.
"I think it’s a great way to get back in the swing of things. I think sometimes high schoolers need that little extra motivation to get to school and it gave them a lot to look forward to," said Sarah Kaul as she dropped off her daughters at school. "A little extra motivation to get ready and get here early for the first day."
Many kids came early, prepared and ready to learn.
"I’m excited for my intro to careers health class," said Pfiefer.
Nicolet Union High School is working on renovations to add conditioning to the building it won't be complete until 2024. Although temperatures are going to be in the 90s, the school says it's prepared and they plan to have a full day of classes.
