Man arrested after allegedly stopping traffic on highway, asking for money in Dodge County
BEAVER DAM, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man is facing charges after allegedly forcing traffic to stop and asking for money in Beaver Dam Sunday, March 15.
Before midnight, the sheriff's office got a report of a person driving erratically on US Highway 151 in Dodge County. The person chased another car and at one point stopped in front of their car, forcing them to stop on the highway. Police say that the man exited his vehicle and asked the other car for money. The other car was able to get away but police got another report of a similar incident later in the city of Beaver Dam.
Beaver Dam Police Officers were able to locate the suspect and performed a traffic stop. During the stop, officers suspected the driver was under the influence and ordered him out of the car. He refused and fled. Officers chased him and police was able to get him to spin out and leave the roadway using a PIT maneuver, but he was able to get back on the highway. They finally ended to chase in the city of Juneau by using a tire deflation device.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old William McCann from Middleton, was taken into custody.
He is facing charges for operating while impaired, felony fleeing and multiple counts of bail jumping with the Dodge County District Attorney's Office.
