New Berlin police arrest 17-year-old following vehicle break-in reports, 2 pursuits
NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested after a police chase Saturday, Feb. 28, around 4:30 p.m.
New Berlin police say that officers responded to a report of vehicle break-ins near S. Coachlight Dr. and W. Greenfield Ave. When they arrived, officers attempted to stop a vehicle from leaving the area and the vehicle fled.
Officers pursued the fleeing vehicle and was able to stop it in the area of Greenfield and Vista View Dr. after deploying several tire deflation devices.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody and the vehicle he was driving was determined to be stolen.
As the 17-year-old was taken into custody, officers found more suspects entering a vehicle near Coachlight and Greenfield. Officer attempted to stop this vehicle but it too fled and a second chase began eastbound on I-94 for several miles.
Police say they eventually stopped chasing the vehicle and were not able to take the suspects into custody.
Officers believe at least one vehicle was stolen from the area of Coachlight and Greenfield, along with several break-ins.
No one was injured during the incident and the 17-year-old was taken to the Waukesha County Jail, where he is being held on operate a motor vehicle without consent and fleeing charges.
The 17-year-old also had a warrant out of Milwaukee County for a previous offense.
An investigation is ongoing.
