New Shepherds Community Café in Union Grove to support students with intellectual disabilities

UNION GROVE, Wis. (CBS 58) – A college and a bank are teaming up to help provide work experience for students with intellectual disabilities.

Shepherds College and Community State Bank (CSB) in Union Grove are working to bring a café to the CSB main office at 1500 Main Street. The cafe will be called Shepherds Community Café.

Shepherds College provides a three-year post-secondary education program for students from all over the world with intellectual disabilities. One of the programs that Shepherds College provides is a culinary program. The café will be staffed by Shepherds College students and all proceeds will directly benefit the college.

According to a release, the college’s culinary staff is currently working with Stone Creek Coffee in Milwaukee to develop a business and training plan for the students as well as a beverage menu.

The café, in addition to the entire Community State Bank main office, is in the process of being renovated and is set to host a grand opening in the spring. Among the many new additions to the bank office, there will also be two community rooms directly connected to the café that will be available for the community free of charge. Both rooms will be available by reservation and have access to café services.
