New Marquette President getting comfortable with new job

MILWAUKEE -- Inauguration ceremonies will be held Thursday and Friday welcoming new Marquette University President Dr. Michael Lovell.   One of those is being the first lay person to lead the Jesuit University.  He says he's learning what it takes to fill the role.   He also believes marquette can play a key role in helping Milwaukee flourish.  He wants students and faculty to embrace the city.  Lovell would also like to partner with local companies to help keep graduates in southeast Wisconsin.  He's also well-aware of problems the city faces.  One of those frequently creeps into the Marquette campus - crime. His administration is working with the Milwaukee Police Department to ensure student safety.

\"It obviously impacts our campus,\" Lovell said.  \"I know crime has been up this fall in particular. It's really important for us,  families and parents entrust us to make sure their children are safe on our campus. It's of utmost concern to me personally  and the administration.
