New candidate enters the U.S. Senate race in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- A new candidate has joined the tightly contested U.S. Senate race in Wisconsin.

Former School District of Beloit interim superintendent and current Administrator of Division of Emergency Management, Dr. Darrell Williams, announced his candidacy Thursday night, August 6.

Williams is a military veteran with nearly 30 years of service in the U.S. Army, including several combat tours throughout the Middle East.

He was appointed by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to his current role as the Administrator of the Division of Wisconsin Emergency Management in July of 2019. 

Williams did not list a political party affiliation in his campaign announcement video.

He joins a packed race of candidates for the 2022 U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ron Johnson.
