New Berlin Police investigating report of sparking wire, explosion on Coffee Road

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- New Berlin Police say Coffee Road has been reopened in all directions. 

Police have not released any new details about why the road was closed.

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The New Berlin Police Department was called to the 18300 block of W. Coffee Road for a report of a sparking electrical wire in conjunction with an explosion.

Upon arrival, police reported seeing a frayed electrical wire and grey smoke coming from the ground beneath the wire.

The New Berlin Police Department requested the assistance of WE Energies, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Milwaukee County Bomb Squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the cause of this incident.

For the purpose of this investigation, Coffee Road, between Calhoun Road and Heide Lane is closed, as well as Woelfel Road between Observatory Road and Coffee Road. Residents are still able to access their homes; however, please note that Coffee Road is impassable between Heide Lane and Woelfel Road.
