Neighbor Spots Fire and Alerts Family

A South Milwaukee family is safe this morning thanks to an attentive neighbor.

According to the South Milwaukee Fire Department, the neighbor spotted the fire at the rear of the two-story home in the 2400 block of S. Nicholson Avenue around 3:20 AM.

The family living in the house was unaware of the fire, but evacuated quickly when their neighbor alerted them. The South Milwaukee Fire Department and several other departments responded, and had the blaze extinguished in about two hours.

According to officials, the fire was confined to an exterior wall at the rear of the structure. The residents are being assisted by other family members.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
