(CBS 58) -- National Poppy Day on May 28 aims to honor fallen military members and their families.
The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice and has been worn by Americans and citizens of allied nations since World War I.
Each year, members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies and request a donation. The funds are used to help veterans with medical needs.
