National Night Out event encourages relationships between police, communities in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Neighbors meeting neighbors -- that's what was happening in several Milwaukee County parks Tuesday night, Aug. 3.

It's National Night Out, an event that encourages the relationships between police and the community and heightens awareness of local crime, drug and violence prevention efforts.

We stopped by one of the events Tuesday night at Kosciuszko Park on the city's south side.

"Folks are happy to be out on a gorgeous day, in a park where it's a little safer with the pandemic, and they're stopping at tables and getting some much-needed information and resources," said Tammy Rivera of Southside Organizing Center.

At the park Tuesday night there was food, games, music and resource tables.

This is the second year for the National Night out at Kosciuszko Park.
