MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dozens of people gathered outside Allen-Field School in Milwaukee Wednesday morning to protest what they say is an unjust suspension of a teacher.
According to Alondra Garcia, a teacher at the school, she was suspended without pay after she shared tips with families, about what to do if they were detained by ICE. She also provided information for immigration services in our area.
According to activists, Allen-Field School principal Fritz Blandon has repeatedly refused to fully implement the Safe Haven Resolution the district put in place to protect students and their families.
"Families need this info, it's their right to get it," said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces De La Frontera. "It shows a grave disconnect between a principal that is standing in the way, who is basically acting with insubordination to implement this policy. We are here to say we recognize that this is a threat, and we are not going to back down."
Garcia hopes to be able to return to her classroom Thursday.
We've reached out to MPS for comment and are waiting to hear back.
