Milwaukee Public Schools students no longer required to wear masks

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tuesday, April 19 is the first day students at Milwaukee Public Schools will not be required to wear masks in school buildings.

The decision was explored during March's Milwaukee Board of School Directors meeting.

According to the district, the board discussed analysis of current trends of COVID-19 and recommendations from the Milwaukee Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"The April 18 date was selected to avoid any possible surges in COVID-19 following various dates for spring break across the state," the district said in a  letter sent home to families on Friday, April 15.

Masks are still recommended for visitors.
