Milwaukee VA veterans use robotics to construct and communicate
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Milwaukee Public Schools hosted its 16th annual Run Back to School 5K on Saturday, Aug. 26.
“I’m excited, I can’t wait to do this 10-minute mile to kick off this wonderful productive school year," said Dr. Keith Posley, Superintendent for Milwaukee Public Schools.
Wick Playfield on Vliet Street was the spot to celebrate the start of the school year. "This is an opportunity for us to get out here, to come together as a unit and our communities to come together to encourage our young people to push them on to greater heights this academic school year," said Dr. Posley.
The event is made possible by Milwaukee Rec.
Erica Wasserman is Recreation Supervisor.
"All of the proceeds of our run back to school go right back into our Milwaukee recreation youth sports program. They go back into helping team sports instructional programs," she said.
The day also included a mascot race, exhibit booths, kids activities and more. Each child who participated in the race received a participation medal.
More than 1,000 people registered to participate.
"I just want a productive, prosperous, academic school year for every single one of our young people," said Dr. Posley.
