MPS gym teacher charged, accused of physically abusing student

Milwaukee County Sheriff\'s Office

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee mother is speaking out after her son was allegedly abused by a teacher at an MPS school.

The incident happened Feb. 26 at Fairview Elementary.

Andrew Fenske is charged with one count of child abuse -- recklessly causing harm.

The criminal complaint says Fenske, a gym teacher, grabbed a third-grade student by the hood as he escorted him out of the gym. The student stated that as he tried to break free, Fenske threw him to the ground, continuing to drag him to an office.

"When he got home, he was all bruised around the neck and had bruises on his back," said Angelica Alba Guerrero, the child's mother. "He came in and told me he thought he was going to die that day."

The school issued a statement saying:

"We immediately started investigating and are taking appropriate action. The individual is not currently working in the building."

Court records show Fenske pleaded not guilty in a June 1 hearing and was bound over for trial.
