MPD officer charged in connection to in-custody death of Keishon Thomas appears in court

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee police officer charged in connection to the in-custody death of Keishon Thomas appeared in court Wednesday, March 22.

Forty-year-old Marco Lopez is charged with misconduct in public office after allegedly falsifying entries in a report book.

The entries reflected "numerous inmate checks and inmate counts that never occurred," according to a criminal complaint.

The judge set a signature bond of $5,000 Wednesday.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on April 4.

Lopez has over 12 years of service with the Milwaukee Police Department and is currently on full suspension.

A second Milwaukee officer, Donald Krueger, is charged with abuse of a resident at a penal facility.

The complaint says Krueger neglected Thomas by failing to give him medical attention despite seeing him "dry heave multiple times" and being informed that he had recently ingested multiple controlled substances.
