Police investigating shooting near UWM's Cambridge Commons Residence Hall

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Police are investigating a shooting near UWM's Cambridge Commons Residence Hall.

UW-Milwaukee police said an alert was issued at 12:40 p.m. after a shooting was reported at a business across the street from the residence hall. 

Milwaukee police say during an argument, a suspect shot a 36-year-old Milwaukee man. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. 

No one from UWM was involved in the shooting. 

Police said there is no threat to the public.

UWM police issued the RAVE alert because of the incident’s proximity to Cambridge Commons. The business is 1.8 miles away from UWM’s main campus. 

Students at UWM are encouraged to make use of counseling services available through the UWM Student Health and Wellness Center if needed.

Employees have been encouraged to seek out support through the EAP program in the Department of Human Resources.
