MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating after one of their officers was struck by demonstrators during an event Sunday, Feb. 18.

They say officers were attempting to disperse a group of "disorderly demonstrators" from the private event when the suspect/s struck an officer.

Tammy Baldwin's campaign confirmed this happened at one of their events at 2nd and Wisconsin Avenue.

In a statement, Tammy Baldwin for Senate Spokesman Andrew Mamo said:

“Striking a police officer is never acceptable. On Sunday, a group of protestors barged into an event they were not invited to. They were asked to leave and refused. Police were called. The protestors were removed and the event proceeded as planned.”

Milwaukee police continue to seek unknown suspects.
