MPD addresses long response time to fatal stabbing

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are responding to reports they took 22 minutes to respond to a fatal stabbing at 24th and Melvina on June 24, 2014.

60-year-old Barbara Killebrew was stabbed and killed in her home around 5:00 p.m. The 911 call was made at 5:26 p.m. and a member of the Milwaukee Police Department arrived at 5:48 p.m.

The Milwaukee Police Department's initial investigation shows all district squad cars were either on assignment or on their way to an assignment at the time the call came in to police. The department says this call was not handled within protocol.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn addressed his command staff to issue a department-wide directive reminding them about the importance responding to emergency calls as quickly as possible.
