Mount Pleasant Police Department welcomes new K-9 officer 'Kala'

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Mount Pleasant police are welcoming a new K-9 officer to their department.

K-9 Kala, a 2-and-a-half-year-old Labrador retriever, will assist the Mount Pleasant Police Department in investigating child exploitation and human trafficking cases.

She's trained to locate items like cellphones, tablets, computers, and flash drives with internal storage devices, where police say perpetrators may conceal images and videos.

The police department says when search warrants are conducted, K-9 Kala will be able to locate any of these hidden devices.

Kala was donated to the police department by kNot Today Foundation, an organization that aims to "end sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking of children."

The police department says K-9 Kala will also serve as a comfort dog for victims and an office therapy dog for officers and detectives.
