Mount Pleasant Police Department welcomes new K-9 officer Aspen

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A new K-9 officer has joined the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

K-9 Officer Aspen is a 20-month-old Belgian Malinois, born in Slovakia, and is the department’s newest resource for patrol operations.

The department says Aspen is a duel purpose patrol canine and he is trained to locate illegal narcotics, articles, tracking people and handler protection.

Officer Zachary Giovannoni is Aspen's handler. Aspen underwent six weeks of training at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania before coming to Mount Pleasant.

Best of luck, K-9 Aspen!
