Mount Pleasant fire displaces residents, results in loss of pets

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A fire Friday afternoon displaced residents of a Mount Pleasant multi-unit home and resulted in the death of three pets, according to the South Shore Fire Department.

Crews say they were dispatched shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at Sun Valley Drive. Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department confirmed a working fire in a second-floor unit before fire personnel arrived and began an interior attack.

No residents were home at the time, and no injuries to responders or residents were reported.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within around 20 minutes and discovered three deceased pets during the search.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants. The unit has been declared uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
