FOND DU LAC CO, WI (CBS 58) -- A Chilton man was killed Saturday night when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a farm tractor in the Town of  Taycheedah in Fond du Lac County.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened around 6:22 PM on US Highway 151 near CTH WH.   Investigators say the motorcycle driven by the 49-year-old Chilton man attempted to pass a vehicle pulling a horse-trailer and had to swerve back into his lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle.  As the oncoming vehicle passed, the motorcycle began to accelerate to pass a farm tractor as it was beginning to turn into a field entrance.  The motorcycle struck the farm tractor ejecting the driver and his 47-year-old female passenger.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the male driver died at the scene of the accident.   The female passenger was taken by Theda Star Helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center with life threatening injuries.  The tractor driver, a 36-year-old man from Plymouth, was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff Office.  Investigations believe speed and unsafe passing are factors in the crash.
