MMSD: Don't panic if you see neon green water near facilities

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58)-- The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District (MMSD) said people should not be alarmed if they come across neon green water near its facilities.

This photo was taken by a viewer near the MMSD South Shore Water Reclamation Facility in Oak Creek.

An MMSD spokesperson told CBS 58 that it's an environmentally friendly green dye used to check for leaks.

The spokesperson said MMSD last used it on Thursday, June 8.

The dye is similar to the one used to turn the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day, according to MMSD.

CBS 58 reached out to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources about the green water but did not immediately hear back.
