MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Stephanie Wong cofounded MKE Mahjong Social Group two years ago to find other players of the traditional Chinese game. Since then, Mahjong has grown in popularity around the country. 

MKE Mahjong Social Group is 100 members strong, and they play weekly at different locations around the Milwaukee area. 

"Our goal is to bring together the community focusing on Mahjong and bringing together different parts of the city," said Wong.  

Mahjong is a game she grew up around, seeing it played by family at celebrations and weekly get togethers. 

"Lunar NY being one of the biggest celebrations in Chinese culture, there’s always Mahjong," said Wong. "I remember putting the chairs together and sleeping in the corner while my aunties and uncles played late into the night."

Tuesday, February 17 is the first of a 15-day celebration of Chinese New Year. It's the perfect time to learn how to play or practice your Mahjong game. 

This Sunday, at Kuumba Juice and Coffee, MKE Mahjong Social Group is hosting a Lunar New Year party with Taiwanese food, fire horse themed drinks and a lot of Mahjong. All are welcome to come play from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Funds raised will go to support Chinese Adoptee Collective.
