Mislabeled 'dark chocolate espresso beans' sold in WI recalled due to undeclared walnut allergen

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Torn & Glasser, of Los Angeles, CA, is recalling 7,464 units of dark chocolate espresso beans due to an undeclared allergen. 

The FDA says the dark chocolate walnuts were mislabeled as "dark chocolate espresso beans." 

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The mislabeled dark chocolate espresso beans were sold at Kroger divisions in 30 states, including Wisconsin, under the banners Kroger, Arlan’s, Fred Meyer, Smiths, Food For Less. Fry’s Food Stores, Ralphs, Dillons, Roundy’s Chicago, and Roundy’s Mariano’s beginning March 3rd, 2021.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product was packaged in a container labeled "Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans" on the top and "Dark Chocolate Walnuts" on the bottom. 

An investigation determined that the wrong label was used by production personnel. 

Customers who purchased this product are urged to destroy it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. 

No illnesses have been reported to date.
