Minor improvements in latest drought monitor update

After the good, soaking rain we had last week across southern Wisconsin, there has been improvement in the ongoing drought in some spots! In particular, Kenosha, Racine, most of Walworth, and southern Waukesha and Kenosha counties are no longer experiencing a severe drought!

Much of the area saw near or above normal rainfall in July, but the deficit since April 1st remains fairly large. We're still running over 6" below normal for most of the growing season. Thankfully the recent rainfall has helped lawns and crops improve a LOT over the last 6 weeks.

Dry weather is expected through most of the daylight hours today, but a few isolated showers or storms are possible this evening, mainly after 7pm.

It'll be hot and humid before the storms develop, so we can't rule out a few stronger storms. We'll be cooler and less humid behind this front on Friday with dry weather to end the work week. Chances for rain return Saturday evening with a better chance for storms on Sunday.

An early heads up that we're already under a severe risk for Sunday. At this time, all types of severe weather are possible. Keep up with the forecast over the next few days for more on the risk.
