Milwaukee's Veterans Park to display 15,015 flags in Memorial Day tribute

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The War Memorial Center will be hosting its 4th Annual "Field of Flags" ceremony at Veterans Park on Monday, May 19, which is Memorial Day, at 6 p.m.

The event, marking 50 years since the Prisoners of War / Missing in Action return from North Vietnam, will also introduce a new exhibit that lists the names of unaccounted-for Wisconsin MIA soldiers since World War I which will be placed in Veterans Park on Milwaukee's downtown lakefront.

During the event, 15,015 U.S. flags will stand at the park, each representing Wisconsinites killed in action since World War I.

The flags, being placed by volunteers during the week of May 22, will remain until June 6, coinciding with the anniversary of WWII’s World War II's D-Day, marking the Allied invasion of Normandy.
