NOW: Milwaukee VA holding job fairs, looking to fill 50 positions

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee’s Medical Center for Veterans needs nurses.

The VA announced plans to hold two job fairs for nurses on December 5 and 6. They have 50 openings to fill.

The open positions are due to new areas opening up at the VA hospital and because the needs of veterans are increasing, according to the VA.

"We need our nurses, I mean, of course, we need physicians as well, but nursing, I mean that's A and B, that's batter and the pitcher put together in a baseball game so we definitely need our nurses.  It can affect us by shutting down floors if it comes to that point,” says Nurse Recruiter Bernadette Jung with the VA Medical Center.

The job fairs are from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on December 5 and from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on December 6 in the Matousek Auditorium. Job seekers can get information at the event, fill out applications on the spot, meet nursing managers, and drop off resumes.

The VA is looking for registered nurses with two-year and four-year degrees, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants throughout the hospital.

Benefits include five weeks’ vacation, 12 sick days and paid holidays, weekend and nighttime differential pay, pension and thrift savings plan.

The VA plans to hire the nurses over the next two months.
