City of Milwaukee, police union reach tentative agreement
The Milwaukee Streetcar Project is taking shape. Crews were putting in rails on West Saint Paul Avenue today.
The project is worth $122 million dollars. The money comes from federal grants, advertising, and fares.
Construction workers are putting in the track in the middle of the road. Traffic was down to one lane today for a few blocks between Plankinton and 4th Street.
Construction workers started putting them in last week. The 80-foot rails were delivered back in march. Some of the people who use public transportation said they're excited to see the streetcar finished.
"I think you know it's here and the best thing we can do as Milwaukeeans is support it and push that the entire vision goes through and from what I understand the Mayor's vision is to connect the city," said Ben Koller who uses public transportation.
Once it's completed, the streetcar will travel alongside traffic on a 2.5-mile route. The streetcar is expected to open next year.
