PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The first year of flag football has gone pretty well for the Milwaukee School of Languages.

"We're 40 and 2 and we've outscored our opponents by 1500 points," says Priyan Cabraal, MSL girls flag football coach.

Now the team gets a chance on the biggest stage. The Hawks recently won the Green Bay Packers regional in the high school division and will now represent the green and gold at the NFL Flag Championships in Westfield, Indiana.

"It's awesome," says Savanna Davis, regional tournament MVP, senior quarterback and linebacker. "We started this not too long ago and to be here now is amazing. You know, we worked hard for it, and we're really excited to represent our school, Milwaukee, and Wisconsin."

MSL will be one of 32 teams looking to make Sunday's championship game. Games will air on the ESPN family of networks, including streaming on Disney+.

"It's going to be a challenge, a big challenge, but we're excited for the competition and excited for the opportunity," said Cabraal.

"You know, we're going to try to win it. But even just to be there is awesome. But yeah, we're definitely going to try to go far and go all the way," said Davis.

Players have made the most of their experience with what they have gained on the field and off of it.

"I'm learning new skills, and whether it's leadership or whether it's just getting to be around the girls and learning them, it's good," said Madison Thompson-Matthews, a senior running back and linebacker.

"It's just been absolutely incredible to see the growth. That's the biggest thing," said Cabraal. "Just how they work together and just worked so hard and just been able to accomplish all that we've done has been incredible, and it's been an amazing journey."

This is the third year of the NFL Flag Championships. More than 300 teams are expected across 11 divisions featuring 8-Under, 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under, HS girls, and will feature international teams.

MSL completed pool play on Thursday and will advance to the bracket competition that takes place July 24-26.
