Milwaukee police offer free steering wheel locks to owners of newer model Kias, Hyundais

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department says they're teaming up with O'Reilly Auto Parts to prevent car theft in the city.

In a post shared on social media Thursday, May 6, MPD says they'll provide a free steering wheel lock to any Milwaukee resident who owns a Kia (2011 or newer) or Hyundai (2015 or newer) with proof of ownership.

District two shared a warning about auto thefts involving these vehicles back in January, and district one echoed the same caution in March, encouraging people who own these vehicles in particular to use an anti-theft device.

Police say the free steering wheel locks were made possible by a donation from the Milwaukee Police Foundation.

To receive a lock, contact any Milwaukee Police District while supplies last.
