Milwaukee Police Department K-9 Foundation hosts dog blood drive

This Saturday your dog can be a hero too and get screened for blood donation.

The  MPD K-9 Foundation, Milwaukee Police Department Canine Unit and Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals (MECA) are partnering to raise awareness of the need for canine blood donation and to increase the donor pool.

They'll be offering free screening for dogs during the Neighborhood Task Force Open House Saturday, May 9th.

Officers Burger and Marshall and K-9 Officer Rocky were special guests on the CBS 58 News at 4:30 p.m. to discuss why this is a great way to do something for the community and get to know all the officers who serve and protect us.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 4715 W. Vliet Street in Milwaukee.

In addition to the free free blood screening  and exam, there will be free obedience, pet nutrition and first-aid classes as well as discounted vaccinations, micro chipping and grooming services.

Locally made dog treats will be available for purchase  and the first 24 blood donors receive a prize package including a “Hank the Dog” bobblehead!

There will also be appearances by the Milwaukee Brewers Famous Racing Sausages and the Hank the Dog mascot.

Brewers Catcher Martin Maldonado will also be there with his dog.

Tours of the Neighborhood Task Force's historic building with Tactical Enforcement Unit's, Motorcycle, and Bicycle Unit displays are also part of the festivities.
