Man, 22, found dead inside car near COA Riverwest Youth Center
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 22-year-old man was found dead after Milwaukee Police confirm a shooting took place on the east side early Thursday morning, June 29 -- outside the COA Riverwest Center on North Avenue and Bremen Street.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Moses Olotu of Milwaukee.
Police said around 6:30 a.m., they found a 22-year-old Milwaukee man dead inside a vehicle when they arrived at the scene. Officials confirmed he suffered a fatal gunshot injury.
CBS 58 crews saw MPD wrapping up the investigation roughly four hours after the homicide took place, clearing out significant yellow tape surrounding a park and towing a white car that was thoroughly investigated.
"This is not good, but things like this, you know, things happen," said Clyde Ward, a local parent.
Ward said he arrived at the park around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday for a typical summer soccer camp day and wasn't sure what was going on.
"This is a great park...they’ve been doing camp here for the last I think five, ten years, and it’s great, everybody likes it here, it’s unfortunate that this happened,” he added.
Cass D'Amato owns the house located directly in front of where the shooting took place. He said he's lived there practically his whole life. His grandparents bought it in the 1940s and has been passed down generations. D'Amato said it's now an Airbnb and wasn't aware of the shooting.
"I mean, it is Milwaukee, so it happens everywhere, it's just unfortunate when it gets pretty close to home," he said.
D'Amato told CBS 58 News that the area is very kid-friendly and hopes everyone, especially children, stay safe.
"Hopefully, whatever is going on, whatever happened, you know, they stay away from the kids for sure," D'Amato said.
