Milwaukee man sentenced to 17 years for shooting that injured 6-year-old niece

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 17 years in prison Wednesday for shooting and injuring his 6-year-old niece in July of 2022.

Thirty-year-old John Anthony Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless injury and first-degree recklessly endangering safety after the shooting near 49th and Meinecke.

According to a criminal complaint, the girl's father told investigators he was asleep next to the child when he heard multiple gunshots coming from outside of the residence. He then looked at his 6-year-old daughter and realized she was shot.

The girl suffered critical injuries.

Investigators interviewed Jackson, who said that he decided to "shoot up the house" because he was "fed up" with the child's father.

The complaint says he admitted to firing about 12 times.

Jackson's prison sentence is followed by five years of extended supervision.
