MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man has been sentenced in the fatal shooting of a 4-year-old girl.

Forty-two-year-old Anthony Brookshire will serve 15 years in prison and an additional seven years of extended supervision. Judge David Borowski gave him the sentence Wednesday, Feb 25.

“You’re a multiple-time felon, any shred of decency would have avoided this child being killed,” Borowski said to Brookshire in court.

JaiNadia Little was pronounced dead after a gun went off inside a back bedroom of a home near 39th and Sheridan in Milwaukee on Feb. 17, 2025. CBS 58 spoke to her grieving aunt after it happened.

The victim's aunt, 25-year-old Derreanna Little, and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Anthony Brookshire, were present in the home.

Authorities recovered the gun believed to be involved in the incident in a vehicle outside the home, a Draco-style firearm.

According to a criminal complaint, Derreanna Little changed her story about what happened the day of the shooting. Investigators say Little initially said she was helping unload groceries when the shooting occurred and then later claimed she was changing her 1-year-old child's diaper inside the residence.

Little told investigators, according to the complaint, she never saw a firearm inside the home -- even after the child was shot. However, she later admitted to seeing Brookshire with the Draco-style firearm in the very same bedroom where JaiNadia was shot.

The criminal complaint says Brookshire admitted he stores a Draco-style gun under the pillows on an air mattress in the back bedroom and said Little was aware it was stored there. Brookshire reportedly told investigators when Little spends the night at the residence, he removes the gun from underneath the pillows.

“I never intended for any kid to get hurt,” Brookshire said in court on Wednesday. “I’m not saying I didn’t have any weapons.”

Derreanna Little is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
