MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The longest serving member currently on the Milwaukee Police Department is getting ready to retire.
He's been on the force for 42 years.
In front of a black and white poster with historic Milwaukee Police Department photos, Lieutenant Charles Berard talked about a career that started with black and white photos of his own.
"I saw what was going on in the world, and I thought I could do better," Berard said.
At the age of 70, he's held multiple positions and worked many investigations.
He also served for more than 30 years in the Milwaukee Police Department Honor Guard.
I'm proud of a lot of the investigations I've been in," he said. "I'm proud of a lot of the awards that I've gotten, but I'm even more proud of the men and women that I work with."
