Milwaukee Fire Department holds ceremony in honor of fallen firefighters
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A memorial to honor Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) firefighters who have died was held Thursday, Oct. 8.
The names of every single fallen firefighter were read aloud.
This ceremony recognized the courage of the MFD firefighters along with the lives and property of citizens that have been protected by them.
MFD Fire Chief Aaron Lipski shared that the memorial wasn't something to glamorize, but rather a somber reminder of the people who have lost their lives protecting the community.
"This isn't romantic, this isn't something to be sensationalized," Lipski said. This is somebody's father or brother or son, or mother or sister, who went to work one day and that was that."
Chief Lipski also emphasized that the memorial wasn't just to honor those who died while at work but those who lost their lives dealing with the physical or mental impacts of their career.
