Milwaukee couple arrested after allegedly having two children steal for them

WAUKESHA COUNTY (CBS 58) -- Two people have been arrested after police say they had two children steal for them.

Christopher Bentley, 33, and Tyrisia Carpenter, 34, are facing charges of Felony Retail Theft, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Child, and Obstructing an Officer.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the Marshalls Store, located at 2852 Golf Road in Delafield, for a report of a retail theft.

It happened on June 25.

Officers stopped a vehicle which matched the description provided by loss prevention of the suspect. Officers located Bentley, Carpenter, and a 15-year-old boy. All three denied being involved in a retail theft.

Officers asked about another girl who was seen on surveillance video. The suspects denied she was in the car but officers located the 12-year-old girl hiding in the trunk.

A loss prevention officer told authorities that the 11-year-old girl entered the store, placed three pairs of shoes in her cart, and made her way to the kid's department where she met up with Bentley and Carpenter.

The surveillance video allegedly showed Carpenter removing the tags off of a duffel bag before giving it to the 12-year-old girl who then hid the shoes inside. The 12-year-old girl then allegedly selected various kids merchandise items, ripped the sensors off, and placed them in the bag. The girl then allegedly did the same thing in the women's department and the beauty department before exiting the store.

Security tried to stop the girl who dropped the bag and ran into a parked car where Carpenter and Bentley were waiting.

Surveillance video also showed the 15-year-old boy leaving the store with a duffel bag of merchandise.

The store confirmed that the 12-year-old girl had taken 42 items of merchandise valued at just over $600.

The 15-year-old boy had allegedly taken 17 items valued at $579.

All of the items were recovered.
